Help with LiveJournal Research
Hi. I'm a student at Oberlin College and as part of my senior honors project I'm researching the LGBTQ communities on LiveJournal. I was wondering if anyone would like to tell me a little bit about their experiences on this site. It could be anything you think is important. This is very vague, but I posted my proposal on my journal and it's open to everyone so feel free to read it! Thank you so much!

Do you want more representation about genderqueer/gender-non-normative? I do. Are there further sources that you know of? Maybe Transgender 301?

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young. GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed. The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS)
, GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFE campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution
Fill out the survey at: www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey
, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student

student in need of help!
Hi all! I'm new to this online community though not all that new to the New York City trans community. I'm a student at The New School and am writing my thesis on transgender safe space in Greenwich Village, particularly looking at hate crimes and police abuse. I'm doing my fieldwork interviews with advocacy groups, police, and individuals and would like to have more individual input. I have a short survey that I would love to have anyone fill out that identifies as trans and either lives or frequents NYC's The Village. If shouldn’t take more than about ten minutes to fill out the survey. If you’re willing to help, please comment or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. THANKS!

My name's Mike and I'm pre-everything. I'm 18 and out to 98% of my friends who are pretty cool about me being transgendered although they still call me by my birth name for the most part. I used to rarely bind, but am begining to do it more often, hopefully daily althought its with ACE bandages. I do not pack, use a STP device, or go into the male restrooms. My father knows, but completly ignores the fact and the rest of my family has no idea.
Here's my questions:
I'm a senior in high school, and in JROTC (I love the program and Idk if me being out would create an issue). Would it be a good move to come out to the highschool so I could graduate under my prefered name? I'm worried about the Staff and Administration reaction, not as much the students.
Also, what can I start under the radar living in my house without my parents knowing this year to get a jump on transistioning??
Does anyone know of some good colleges in TX that are friendly with Transistioning??
Anything else that you all know that could help me out???

New to the community
I'm a biological male, but I've been trying to transition to androgyny for some time now. I occasionally get mistaken for a female and have been asked what my gender was before. Not so much since I had to get my hair cut though.
My personal reasons for being gender neutral are I didn't fit society's conventional male role, and I don't really approve of gender roles at all. A person is a person. I plan on keeping my penis, for I quite enjoy it, but I don't want people I don't know to pigeonhole me as one way simply because of my gender. The only way I want people to know my gender is if I tell them or show them. I actually failed to give a decent run down of my reasons but oh well. I've got to wake up for my first day of school in 5 hours.
My hardest part is developing a neutral voice. I can do an okay female voice (not a falsetto) and my male voice is still pretty natural, but I don't know how to go neutral.
Any thoughts would be appreciated, and I hope this community isn't completely dead. I think I'll like it here. Current Mood: mellow
